TransUnion SmartMove uses a soft credit inquiry for its credit reports. This means that the inquiry will not damage the applicant’s credit score.
In comparison, a hard credit inquiry, used when pulling credit for approval of a major loan such as a mortgage, can damage one’s credit score by up to five points per inquiry. In addition the information on a hard credit inquiry is largely irrelevant for a rental property, as most of the information is designed to be used for loan approval.
